British Talent Cup round 1, Silverstone.

Last week saw Matts compete in his first BTC race at Silverstone national. It was good to have an added test day on the Thursday so that he could learn the track and get in some more riding time. He ended the Friday in combined 12th place and went into qualifying with a good feeling, although with it being a short track, he wouldn’t be able to improve his time much.

Saturday he qualified 16th. There was 1 second between the first 18 riders showing how close it was. Race 1 was in the afternoon. He lost one place on the start, but quickly managed to work his way up through the 2nd group until he was leading it, but the first group of 8 riders had already got away and they had a 4 second advantage. He came home in 9th place which was a good result for his first race.

He had a better start in race 2 on Sunday and held onto his start place. The leading group got away again and Matts was left trying to get through the second group. There was a a lot of changing, overtaking and passes going on which eventually slowed the 2nd group down somewhat, although he got himself to the front of the group and with 3 crashes in the front group on the last lap he ended up 6th!

In all a really good week, lots learned and he knows what he needs to work on. He ended with a P9, P6, 7th in the championship standings and best Rookie so far; but theres a long way to go!!

Excited for round 2 in Oulton Park on the 3oth April and then really excited to get the European Talent Cup underway in Estoril for round 1.
